It’s just plain fun when the JCBC family gets together.  I love it when we intentionally slow the pace of our lives – just for a little while – and simply gather.  We celebrate, delight in and even re-kindle long treasured friendships, and often times, make some new friends in the process.  No time restraints.  No agenda.  Just the joy of each other. Let’s do it again on Sunday, October 1st. On that day, we will gather for [BE] Fed – the 2017 version of Food Truck Sunday.  Immediately after worship, make your way to the back parking lot – near the...

The table is set. Our Connection, Formation, and Mobilization Ministries– while always evolving and improving – are humming along.  Our Worship Ministry has expanded to include both Blended/Traditional and Contemporary worship opportunities – each excellent in their own way.   Greeters are greeting.  Teachers are teaching.  Singers are singing.  Servants are serving.  Leaders are leading.  Communities are communing. Yes, the table is set.  So, now what? JCBC…it’s time to Go and Tell.  More directly…it’s time for EVERY ONE OF US TO GO AND TELL.  Even more directly…it’s time for YOU to go and tell.  It is up to us to tell others that JCBC...

I know the final score but, truthfully, I didn’t watch much of the game.  Oh, I’d check in on the action from time to time when the crowd got excited over something happening on the field.  Mostly, though, I watched and enjoyed the people.  Our people.  Us. I’m grateful for us. I watched as people visited with each other – in the stadium and in the tailgate areas of the parking lot – during our lovely pre-game fellowship time (some people call it a rain delay).   It’s heartwarming watching people enjoy each other.  Chatting.  Laughing.   Weather predicting. I’m also grateful for the lives…the...

What does your 5 bucks get you? ...

Some say that a picture is worth a thousand words.  I believe that to be an understatement. When you simply glance at any one of the Mother’s Day pictures taken at JCBC so many of you have stuffed in your bibles or carefully placed in photo albums, floods of words, thoughts, emotions and memories emerge.  A thousand just won’t do it. To be sure, we will again offer the time honored tradition of Mother’s Day pictures this coming Sunday.  Immediately following worship, our photographers will be on hand in two venues.  For the more traditional approach, gather your family in the courtyard...

Not coincidentally, so many of the historic figures we like to quote say the same thing about service and volunteerism.  People whose lives fascinate and inspire us – people like Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Mother Teresa and so many others – all agree.  We are at our best – we rise – when we lift or serve others. Perhaps they take the words of Jesus seriously.  He said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”  (Mark 9:35 NIV)  The servant of all…imagine that. This past Sunday, over 80 new volunteers gathered...

This past Sunday, Pastor Shaun called on us all to Get In The Game.  He called on us, directly, to help meet the continuing and surging need for volunteers in three distinct areas of service – Children’s Ministry, Hospitality, and Technology.  Right now, these areas already require a small army of weekly volunteers.  The need will only grow as we move, together, toward the creation and implementation of dual, simultaneous worship services.  Putting the call for volunteers in context, Shaun said, “As you do, you are getting in the game.  You are helping POSTURE your church to love others in the...

I can see it in my mind’s eye so clearly.  I can feel it in my soul.  Shoot, I can nearly taste it. Sunday morning.  My mother in the kitchen.  She would be nearly ready for church – only the finishing touches remain.  Her Sunday finery would be covered by a full length apron.  She is getting Sunday lunch ready – at least ready enough.  All she’ll have to do when we get back from church is brown the rolls and dish it up.  On the very special days – the days when dessert would be strawberry shortcake or peaches –...

On any given Sunday, JCBC is host to any number of people who have walked through our doors for the very first time.  Something has happened, or something has changed, or something has stirred which has caused them to make that bold step.  We don’t always know the reason and, really, it doesn’t matter.  Our responsibility is to acknowledge and embrace them.  Our task is to Welcome the Stranger. That’s something we, as a church, will be talking a lot about as the year progresses. Welcoming the proverbial stranger is primarily a function of two things; Attitude and Action.  Clearly, a warm,...

It’s one thing to simply go to a hockey game with your family. It’s another thing to take over the arena. Join us for JCBC Night at Atlanta Gladiators on Friday, January 15 as we do just that! Game time is 7:35 at Infinite Energy Arena (formerly known as Gwinnett Arena) – Home of the Atlanta Gladiators! And…oh yeah…the first 300 tickets are available for only $5.00 per ticket. (All other tickets will be made available at the negotiated discount price of $10.00 each – still a substantial savings.) What do you get for your 5 bucks? • Premium Seating in Section 101 • The chance...
