For last year’s words belong to last year’s language, and next year’s words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a new beginning. T.S. Eliot Over the twenty-three years serving this church, I’ve seen many staff ministers come and go. Each brought their own talents, gifts and mindsets to their respective ministry areas and each left us richer for their time with us. Each new minister arrives amidst feelings of renewal and promise for our future. So, this weekend we say farewell to a long interim and warmly welcome our new Children’s Pastor, Annie Sutton. Our new beginning...

We are thrilled to welcome Adam Courtney to the JCBC team! Last week the church voted unanimously to call Adam as our contemporary worship leader. Adam comes to us with a heart for true worship, and a passion for helping people engage in ways that are meaningful and authentic. He has been leading worship, these recent years, with excellence at North Point Community Church. Interestingly, Adam had the unique opportunity a few years ago of developing, launching, and leading a contemporary service in a traditional church. He led such an initiative in Richmond, Virginia, where that church continues to thrive. But most importantly,...

I am excited to announce that a new version of the www.jcbc.org is now live! I know what you are thinking. Didn’t we just launch a new website two or three years ago? Yes, we did. But three years can be an eternity in this digital era. So, in an effort to remain fresh and functional in this ever-changing time, we have updated many aspects of our Website. As you browse, here are just a few features to look for...

On that night, JCBC gathered for a special called business session to consider and vote upon the report of the JCBC Worship Study Group. After nearly a year and a half of deliberate discernment and dialogue, the church heard the presentation and voted unanimously to approve the report and its strategic initiatives. Included here is a link to the entire report.* If you were not able to be in attendance last Wednesday, please make the time to read the report in its entirety.  It is comprised of three...

The point and purpose of Lent, is movement. Lent, as a journey, is a reminder that we are headed somewhere. This season of contemplation and confession, reflection and repentance only matters when we understand that we are in motion, moving redemptively toward the resurrection and renewal of Easter. Palm Sunday Celebration On Sunday, March 20th during the 11:00 worship service, our children will call us to worship with our traditional Parade of Palms. In this service, pay...

In last month’s State of the Church Address, we celebrated the many ways God continued to bless us at JCBC, over the course of the past year. We looked at those blessings, specifically through the lens of our 4 strategic areas of focus: Connections, Formations, Mobilization and Worship. If you were not with us that night, I hope you will take the time to watch the video of that presentation, so that you too are aware of the many ways God is moving in us and through us, as a congregation. In just one week from Sunday, you and your family will...

Parenting is hard. I wish there was a handbook that explained the how’s and why’s, but there just isn’t one. And I find myself learning that once I have one of my children ‘figured’ out, something new happens, something changes, and I feel like I have to start over trying to figure out who this little, or maybe not-so-little, person is again. In every stage of parenting, from the beginning to the end, we find ourselves asking more and more questions, scratching our heads at why they do this, or why they do that, and looking to others for answers. I...
