Sweet Tea gatherings provide an atmosphere of hope and healing in a welcoming setting that allows the love of Christ to be shared. Sweet Tea is open to men and women of all ages from our congregation as well as our local community.\nOn Sunday, November 5th at 2pm in the Heritage Room, Sweet Tea will host an event titled, “Food is Medicine: A Conversation about Cancer and Nutrition.” Bring a friend and join us for afternoon tea and light bites as we hear from Cheryl Howlin, Dietician/Nutritionist and co-owner of Circle A Farms and SusanSnaps as well as Savannah Duffy, Level II Oncology Dietitian.\nReservations appreciated, but not required. RSVP to sweetteaministry@gmail.com ( mailto:sweetteaministry@gmail.com ).\n————————————\nCheryl Howlin – Co-Owner Circle A Farms; SusanSnaps\nCheryl co-owns a local hydroponic lettuce farm, Circle A Farms, located in Cumming, GA as well as SusanSnaps.\nCircle A Farms\nWith a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics & Food Science and a certificate as a Holistic Health Counselor from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City, Cheryl brings a passion for both plant-based nutrition and providing healthy local greens to the local community. Cheryl developed the “Farm to Porch” Direct Delivery program, bringing fresh greens directly from the farm to the home. She believes eating food close to how it was grown, with minimal processing, provides the most bio-available form of nutrients to promote optimal health. Cheryl is currently offering both Salad Parties (yes, lettuce can be both delicious, nutritious and fun!) and Nutritional Workshops from their Farm Store, located adjacent to their greenhouse in Cumming. Be sure to take a peek at their website to learn more about this wonderful, local shopping experience. www.circlealettuce.com\nWhen not finding something new and innovative to apply to the Circle A Farms greenhouse, she loves to hike, read, spend time with her family, cook (occasionally!) or enjoy time with close friends, especially playing a game of Euchre.\nSusanSnaps\nCheryl is also a cancer survivor. At 22, a week before college graduation, her life took an unexpected and terrifying turn. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the same cancer her Aunt Susan (for whom I’m named after) died from at 28 years old. She and her dad even went through chemotherapy within the same year and, at times, alongside each other. Seeing the two hooked up to IVs simultaneously left her mom feeling devastated and helpless.\nAfter learning ginger is a stomach soother and, of course, homemade cookies always bring smiles, her mom carefully crafted a recipe for gingersnaps, eventually naming them “Susansnaps.” Her Mom hoped her delicious gift would show she cared – and it did! On treatment days, she brought the cookies to share with her fellow cancer buddies and saw the smiles and joy this little gesture and cookie gift brought. Neighbors, family and friends started hearing about the unique gingersnaps, and a beautiful business was born. Susansnaps is here to help you show your family and friends you care. susansnaps.com\nSavannah Duffy – Level II Oncology Dietitian\nSavannah began her career at Northside Hospital as a clinical dietitian working in the inpatient and general outpatient nutrition settings. In 2023, she became a level II oncology dietitian. She currently specializes in patients who are at increased risk for developing cancer, as well as survivorship nutrition. She is in the process of attaining additional credentials as a Certified Specialist of Oncology. Her favorite part of her job is helping patients realize that they can improve their quality of life through nutrition in a way that is meaningful and tasty!\nSavannah’s interests include cancer prevention and helping cancer survivors navigate through their health journey. In her free time, she can be found reading, traveling, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs.\n\n URL:https://jcbc.org/event/sweet-tea/ CATEGORIES:Sweet Tea Ministry ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://jcbc.org/wp-content/uploads/SweetTea110523Post.jpg END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
