May Sunday School Series
Discipleship: The Way of Jesus as a Way of Life
Sunday School – Month of May Discipleship Emphasis
We will have a special Sunday School lesson plan during the month of May. This will culminate with a combined master teacher class on Sunday, May 28th.
Title: “Discipleship: The Way of Jesus as a Way of Life”
Lesson 1 – Jesus our Example
Lesson 2 – Jesus our Savior
Lesson 3 – Jesus our Bridge
Lesson 4 – The Way of Jesus as a Way of Life
Within the concept of discipleship, it is important to understand how Jesus, who is fully human and fully God, is able to connect with us in such a way that He becomes the very center of our being (i.e., Galatians 2:20 – “I am crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me”). These three lessons, then, describe the different aspects of Jesus’ nature and work and how they interact with humanity.
As our being is transformed, the outward expression of our new nature manifests itself in all areas of our lives. However, as fallen creatures, we are constantly (and daily) at war with our old, sinful nature. Discipleship is the process by which we remain vigilant in the ongoing cultivation of our new nature in Christ, which becomes the essence of discipleship: it starts from within in and culminates (or radiates) outwardly in practice.
