Our Johns Creek Baptist Church Member in the Spotlight this week is Dick Roberts. Dick has been a member of JCBC for 23 years and has been a member of several Sunday School Communities over the years. Most recently Dick has been a member of the Brown Community. Dick appreciates hearing from his JCBC family and enjoys receiving cards and emails. It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of former JCBC Administrative Assistant, Victoria Woods. Victoria was part of the JCBC team and had responsibilities with the Mobilization, New Member, and Deacon Ministries. There will be a funeral service for Victoria. The information follows: Funeral Service, Friday, September 6, 2024. Viewing from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Service will begin at 6:00 PM, at the HOPE Funeral Home, 165 Carnegie Place, Fayetteville, GA 30214. Please keep the family in your prayers.

Week of August 14-21

Our Johns Creek Baptist Church Member in the Spotlight this week is Barbara Parker.  Barbara has been a member of JCBC for nearly 60 years and has been a member of the Bowen Community for many years.  Barbara enjoys receiving cards from her JCBC church family and these can be mailed to Barbara at The Retreat at Conyers, 1502 Renaissance Drive, Apartment 1-B, Conyers, GA  30012.  Barbara enjoys a sweet treat now and then, and you can give her a quick call to schedule a short visit.

Our Member in the Spotlight this week is Camely Mayfield.  Camely has been a member of Johns Creek Baptist Church for nearly 20 years and has been a member of the Bowen Community for over 10 years.   Camely appreciates receiving cards and texts from her JCBC family.  Cards may be sent to Camely at The Orchards, 2012 Harvest Ridge Lane, Alpharetta, GA 30022.

Prayer Request, Shaun King, 8/8/2024
The prayers of the church are requested for long-time JCBC member, Phil Brown, who will be undergoing surgery in the morning (Thursday, August 8th, at 7:30 a.m.). Phil has endured several days of immense pain and discomfort in his abdomen. After extensive tests, it has been determined that surgery is necessary. Please pray for the skill of the surgeons, for the keen understanding of the problem, and for the clear path toward healing and wholeness.

We are grateful to report Phil Brown came through surgery today with great success. Surgeons were able to work laparoscopically to remedy the problem. The outcome was the best-case scenario. Phil will remain in the hospital short term for recovery, and then return home. We give thanks to God for such good news and thank the church family for your prayers!

Longtime JCBC members, Dick and Pat Roberts will be selling their home ASAP and relocate to Arbor Terrace Senior Community in Johns Creek. Please lift this family in prayer during this huge transition. Their new address has not been assigned at this time but will be made available when they occupy their apartment.

Week of July 31-August 7

Our Johns Creek Baptist Church Member in the Spotlight this week is Jo-Ann Leathers.
Jo-Ann has been a member of JCBC for over 24 years and is a longtime member of the Bowen Community. Jo-Ann  appreciates hearing from her Johns Creek Baptist church family and prefers emails over cards.  Emails may be sent to Jo-Ann at leathersjandt@aol.com.

Prayer Request, Rhonda Byrd, 7/31/2024
Carol Hitchcock is asking for prayer. On Thursday, August 8th, Carol will have an outpatient surgery. She is asking for prayer that all will go well and that she will have relief from her pain in her back and legs.

Prayer Request, Bret Hegi, 8/3/2024
Jim Jeffcoat (92), Cheryl McAllister’s Dad, passed away in his sleep on Monday while being cared for by of one of the world’s greatest caregivers, Beverly, his wife for over 67 years.

James (Jim) E. Jeffcoat, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Beverly; his son, James E. Jeffcoat Jr., and daughter-in-law, Judi; his daughter, Cheryl, and son-in-law, Sanford McAllister. He was the proud grandfather of Christina and Caroline Jeffcoat, Ashley and Lauren McAllister, and Elizabeth Johnson.

He is also survived by his two sisters, Mary Flynn and Dorothy Herndon, and his brother, John Jeffcoat, and sister-in-law, Emily. James leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jim honorably served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy. After his service, he graduated from Troy University and embarked on a successful career in finance. He worked for many years at Commercial Credit Business Loans before joining First Atlanta Bank and eventually retiring from Wachovia Bank.

Jim’s life was marked by his dedication to his family, his country, and his work. His legacy of love, integrity, and service will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A service of Remembrance will be held on August 6, 2024 at 10AM at Wages and Sons Funeral Home Stone Mountain Chapel 1040 Main Street Stone Mountain, GA 30083. He will be interned in Canton, Georgia at the Georgia National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Jim’s honor.

Jim will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Prayer Request, Rhonda Byrd, 8/7/2024
It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of JCBC member, Sylvia Head. Sylvia was in hospice care at Heartis Senior Living which did a great job in caring for Sylvia especially throughout her time there. There are no arrangements at this time. We will give you the information when it is finalized. Please be in prayer for Sylvia’s family as they navigate through this very difficult time.

Week of July 24-31

Our Member in the Spotlight this week is Fan King.  Fan has been a member of Johns Creek Baptist Church for over 27 years.
Fan is a former member of the Progressive Sunday School Community and has been a member of the Bowen Community for several years.
Fan welcomes calls, texts and cards from her JCBC family.  Cards may be mailed to Fan at 3715 High Gables East, Cumming, GA 30041.
