Our Johns Creek Baptist Church Member in the Spotlight this week is Reverend Olive Chappell Wilson, Jr. Chappell has been a member of JCBC for over 26 years and recently joined the Nonagenarian club! Chappell is a member of the Bowen Sunday School Community and has been for several years. Prayer Request, Rhonda Byrd, 10/4/2026:
Jean Ward is asking for prayer for her husband, Ben Ward. Ben has been suffering with memory difficulties, and is now living at St. Ives Memory Care. These past few days, he has had challenges with AFib, and he has fallen and broken his shoulder. Please be in prayer for Ben and pray for Jean’s strength as well.

Our Johns Creek Baptist Church Member in the Spotlight this week is Ben Ward. Ben has been a member of JCBC for almost 27 years, many of these as a member in the Clagg Sunday School Community. Ben has also been a member of the Durham and Chase Sunday School Communities and has been a member of the Sanctuary Choir. JCBC Family, the Celebration of Life Service for our dear member, Ellen Stone, will be Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Chapel and a luncheon immediately following. Please keep Jim and the family in your prayers.
Obituary:
Ellen Swanner Stone, of Johns Creek, Georgia, passed away on September 17, 2026. Ellen was born on March 18, 1952, in Camden, Alabama, to William Edward Swanner and Willie Dell Swanner. She graduated from Wilcox County High School and later attended Samford University.
Ellen was married to her husband, James E. “Jim” Stone, for 53 years. Together they built a life centered around their family, home, church, and the many friendships they made through the years.
She was the loving mother of Ellen Michelle Stone and Brian Thomas Stone and his wife, Kate Bradey Stone, and the proud grandmother of Olive Elizabeth Stone and Milly Rose Stone. Her family was a very important part of her life, and she especially treasured her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother.
During her working years, Ellen worked as a legal secretary and in accounting-related secretarial positions. She also devoted much of her life to caring for her family and home.
Ellen was a member of Johns Creek Baptist Church, where she participated in Sunday school and volunteered her time. Her church and the friendships she formed there were meaningful parts of her life.
She enjoyed playing tennis, exercising and attending exercise classes, traveling, and working word games. She enjoyed staying active and spending time with the people she loved.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, William Edward Swanner and Willie Dell Swanner, as well as other beloved family members.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James E. “Jim” Stone; her daughter, Ellen Michelle Stone; her son, Brian Thomas Stone and his wife, Kate Bradey Stone; her
granddaughters, Olive Elizabeth Stone and Milly Rose Stone; and other family members and friends who will remember her with love.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Johns Creek Baptist Church Chapel on October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A seated luncheon will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ALS United of Georgia.

Prayer Request, Ron Maxwell, 9/24/2026:
My DIL’s father, Brian Wilson, is going through treatments for acute myeloid leukemia and was re-admitted to Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, Illinois on 9/22/26. Brian has severe weight loss due to severe, uncontrolled diarrhea. It has been more than 100 days since his stem cell transplant. Please pray for healing so he can get nutrition and gain strength. Our Johns Creek Baptist Church Member in the Spotlight this week is Nancy Skidmore. Nancy has been a member of JCBC for almost 20 years, many of these as a member of the Bowen Sunday School Community. Nancy was also a member of the Master;s Singers for several years and helped with Preschool and Worship Childcare. Elmer Goble is doing much better after his quadruple bypass surgery. Jacque said that the doctor has given the approval for him to be moved from ICU to a regular hospital room. They are currently waiting for that to happen soon. Please keep the prayers going for both Elmer and Jacque and he continues to recuperate. Elmer Goble is out of surgery. Praise God! Once the surgery began, the doctor determined that he needed a quadruple, instead of a triple, bypass. The surgery was successful and Jacque will get to see him as soon as his recovery time is completed. Thank you for your prayers for a successful surgery.
