Sims Lake Park features a wonderful 1.2-mile, well-marked walking loop. A good portion of the trail winds through pine and hardwood stands that offer plenty of shade. Other portions of the trail are alongside beautiful meadows and around a 7-acre lake. The trail is fully paved and completely accessible to strollers and wheelchairs. There are some “off-trail” pathways for the adventurous (I don’t know where they go but they look fun!) and you can add to the distance by looping more than once or taking one of the off-shoot pathways along the way. There is a shorter, 7/10th mile loop that encircles the lake. There are plenty of benches on the trail if you need a rest or would just like to sit and chat awhile. There are also a few sitting and picnic spots along the trail as well as a covered shelter at the parking lot. The covered deck looking over the lake is a nice spot to take it all in – and to see some pretty big fish (no fishing) and turtles swimming around. There’s a well-apportioned playground for the littles and there are bathrooms near the parking lot. Parking is plentiful. Runners will appreciate the asphalt paving – no concrete in sight!

I have always enjoyed a good walk, and participated in charity walks on Siesta Key, and around Sarasota Bay, when I lived in Florida. Just got back from a 2 1/2 week vacation, where I walked, a lot. As I get older, it’s more of a challenge, but still enjoy it immensely.
Really looking forward to “ Let’s Walk”!
