“We work together”. 1 Corinthians 3:9 was the bible verse our JCBC weekday preschoolers learned in October which went hand in hand with our Community and Cooperation unit.
Cooperation is such a big word for a preschooler to fully comprehend but what is so interesting to observe is how naturally cooperation opportunities are woven into their daily lives. While helping in a three year old classroom one day, a sweet little girl without being asked, grabbed a paper towel for herself and then turned to the boy beside her and said, “I got you one too and I am going to put it right here for you when you need it.” Our preschool staff witnesses it every day as we walk the children back to their classrooms from morning carpool…an older child holding the hand of a younger one. We see the excitement on the children’s faces when they are assigned a weekly job such as door holder, lunch box helper or line leader. Our staff saw it as the children participated in a Stock the Pantry service project for our local firehouses as we talked about our community helpers. The three collection boxes originally set out to hold the donations quickly grew to nine!
Amazing things are happening in the preschool as we work together to reach the needs of our community. Connections are being made and prayers are being answered. We are touched when a family whose faith is not based on the teachings of the bible or Jesus Christ and who was worried about sending their child to a Christian preschool is the first to say thank you with a kind hug at every opportunity. This same family whose child begged to come to school after being awake all night with an illness so she could bring the fireman the canned goods she had picked out for them herself. Each day the children are learning that working together and cooperating with others just makes things better and by doing so, we are honoring God.
“For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.” 1 Corinthians 3:9 (NIV)

I love your blog Karen. So inspiring. The children enjoy working together and it comes naturally to them when lead by great examples and role models.
So grateful to be working together with such great teachers and parents!!
