When You Know Your “Why” Anything is Possible

When you know your “why” anything is possible.

When you know your why, then your who, what, when, where, and how become simply a matter of consistent effort and energy over time.

When our church voted to expand our worship options for the sake of reaching those who otherwise may not encounter the JCBC experience, we claimed our “why”.

We knew (through two years of deliberate dialogue and discernment) that there was (and is) something remarkably unique about who we are as a congregation.

We knew that our way of doing community is uncommonly strong among churches.

We knew that our theologically progressive message is distinct in our region.

We also knew, however, that there are many neighbors who hunger and thirst for our way of “doing and being church,” yet are deeply drawn to a particular type of worship environment. That is why our congregation chose to courageously expand our worship options–in order to share the life, love, and faith we enjoy as “the JCBC experience” with others who are longing for the same.

The journey of coming to this decision together and claiming our common “why” as one unified body stands as a testament to the spiritual maturity and kingdom vision of this great church.

When you know your “why,” anything is possible.

And now that we are here; now that we are living fully into our new, multi-venue worship paradigm, we begin the next exciting chapter of our story—becoming excellent at it!

So, this past Sunday was our first official service in two venues, and I could not be more proud of the countless volunteers and leaders who helped make it a reality. Throughout the morning, I floated from station to station to see if anything was needed among our many, many moving parts. In each location, I was met by devoted members who were working diligently to ensure we were ready. Their energy and enthusiasm was contagious! Seeing them come alive in their own ministry settings reminded me of the Apostle Paul’s words in his letter to the Colossians…

“Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord…” ~Colossians 3:23

Their hard work paid off. Our first multi-venue service went extremely well.
With one Sunday under our belt, our team began early Monday morning debriefing the day and compiling a list of areas in need of attention. (A task that will repeat itself each Monday for the next many weeks or months.)

Each week we will discover something new.

Each week we will know something we did not know before, and with patience, and consistency, will continue to adjust lighting, tweak camera angles, rearrange timing, and more.

All toward one unified purpose: to bring glory to God in all we do, and to be found faithful in this remarkable opportunity God has placed before us.
