This past Saturday, more than 120 JCBC leaders gathered for a special breakfast.
These leaders were members of the Pastor’s Council, Pastoral Staff, Deacon Body, Stewardship Committee, the Chairpersons of all JCBC standing committees, Adult Sunday School Community Leaders, Representatives from our Preschool Ministry, Children’s Ministry, and Student Ministry, as well as Lead Officers of our Sanctuary Choir.
These leaders gathered to consider a report from the JCBC Worship Study Group.
This group, commissioned by the church in early 2015, and comprised of a wide range of JCBC members representing various ages and perspectives, worked for more than a year, guided by the following task:
“This worship study group exists in order to prayerfully discern current and future expressions of worship at Johns Creek Baptist; and where appropriate, make recommendations to the church body at large for the health and vibrancy of this vital ministry area.”
After more than 25 hours of dialogue and discernment, listening and seeking to understand the direction of God through the voice of the congregation at large, the Worship Study Group presented its findings and recommendations to congregational leaders on Saturday.
The report was well received by JCBC leadership, who at the conclusion of the meeting voted to “enthusiastically recommend the report of the Worship Study Group to the church body at large.”
To that end, I want to invite you and your family to a special called church conference on Wednesday, May 25th, 2016 beginning at 6:00 p.m. At that meeting, the church will hear the report, which consists of three parts:
- Background – This section is the narrative explaining the history and purpose behind the Worship Study Group’s mission as well as the subsequent JCBC Worship Dialogues that took place in January, 2016.
- Values to Honor – This section reports the results of the JCBC Worship Dialogues. It presents what the Worship Study Group heard the church say.
- Strategic Initiatives – This section reveals the specific strategic initiatives being recommended by the Worship Study Group.
At the conclusion of this special called church conference, members will have the opportunity to adopt the strategic initiatives being proposed, by way of congregational vote.
These are exciting days, as they represent the culmination of much prayer and discernment. God’s spirit has been felt guiding our process gently and deliberately all along the way. As your pastor, I am excited for you to hear the report of the Worship Study Group, as it underscores, with great celebration, our widely shared convictions and values as a congregation, and further calls us as one unified body to take courageous steps together into a new, and next, era of growth.
Please make plans now to attend this very important church conference on Wednesday evening, May 25th, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
I hope to see you there.
