Festival of Praise

Praise God in His sanctuary…
Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet…
Praise Him with the harp…
Praise Him with the stringed instruments and organs…
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
–from Psalm 150

This Sunday evening we will be praising God in His sanctuary. We will be using stringed instruments (pianos) and organ. And the organ has the sounds of the trumpet, harp, and all kinds of other instruments. And they will all be tuned for praise.

Sunday evening at 6:00pm, we will have our Keyboard Festival of Praise. We have brought in second Bosendorfer concert grand piano. And during the evening Bob Cash, Glen Sloan, and I will play…at times alone, at times duo, and at times all together. We will play a variety of styles but all with the purpose of praising the Lord.

I shared a video with the choir on Wednesday night of a “flash mob”-type event filmed in Birmingham. The song they sang was “Every Praise.” Part of the lyrics are “Every praise is to our God. Every word of worship with one accord. Every praise is to our God.”

And that’s the real issue, isn’t it? However we may express it. Through whatever vehicle. It needs to come from the heart. Our hearts to His. Every praise…not for us to like it or not…every praise is to our God.

This Sunday evening, every note that’s played on the organ and/or piano is a praise to our God. We are blessed each week with Glen Sloan and Bob Cash at the keyboards. They bring many years of experience…even many years in our church, 16 and 25 respectively. And every note of worship, whether it is a solo, or accompanying the congregation and choir, is to our God. We need to position our hearts so that there are no preconceptions, there are no barriers, there are no hindrances…only praises to our God. Every word of worship in one accord…to our God.

I hope you can join us Sunday at 6:00pm. Invite…better yet…bring someone with you. But if you can’t join us in person, pray. Pray that God will be glorified with every note of praise.

When, in our music, God is glorified
And adoration leaves no room for pride,
It is as thought the whole creation cried “Alleluia!”

Let every instrument be tuned for praise!
Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise!
And may God give us faith to sing always “Allelulia!”

  • The “Keyboard Festival of Praise” last Sunday evening met and exceeded every expectation I had. The music selection and the arrangements were such an inspiration, as was watching the incredible artistry of Glenn, Bob & Bob. If you missed the “trot around the instruments” (ask someone who was there for an explanation you really missed it. And for those who lament that Robin Williams has left us, take heart. He left a protégé: Bob Cash. The Bob Cash version of the “moonwalk” and the 720 degree spin around the organ bench just broke me up.

  • I know I messed up in that last post. It’s Glenn, Glen & Bob. They played around with those names so much Sunday evening that they got me confused. Mea Culpa!
