Start Where You Are

It’s pledging season at JCBC.
This is the time of year when we all make our commitments to support the ministries of the church, financially, in the year ahead.

Some of our members have been practicing this discipline for many years.
But for others, this may be the very first time you’ve taken this step in your faith.

If you didn’t grow up tithing, or pledging your support, it can be a little intimidating, and hard to know where to start. Even if you want to tithe ten percent, your present situation may make it extremely challenging until your debt is reduced, or your budget is reorganized.

So, what do you do? Do this.
Start where you are, and grow from there.

That’s how God loves us through every growth point in our lives.
God meets us right where we are, but loves us too much to leave us there.

So, think about it this way.
When you look back over the last year and remember all of the ministry and mission and life we experienced together as a church, what was the sum total of what you were able to contribute to your church financially?

Did it amount to, say, one percent of your income? One and a half, maybe?
If so, there is no judgment, no shame, no condemnation.
Well done!!

But as you think about doing your part to support what God may be up to in us this next year,
is it time to courageously take a new and next step of faith?
Could one and a half percent become two percent? Two and a half become three?

When it comes to getting started in this deeper journey, we don’t start where we SHOULD be.
We start where we ARE…and grow from there.

You can submit your pledge by mailing your card to the church, or by simply following this link.
As you do, let me know if this is your first time!
I want to celebrate with you in this important step in your spiritual journey.

Have I told you lately how much I love being your pastor?
Well, I do.
